When moving into a new home, we would expect to find the place has been thoroughly cleaned for our arrival.
One woman thought this was the case when she moved into her new pad.
However, after deciding to go over the carpets upstairs in the master bedroom with a carpet cleaner, she soon found she was wrong.
The carpets had initially appeared to be a darker brown, but after using the Hoover Pro Clean Pet Carpet Cleaner, she discovered they were actually a light tan shade.
She shared a video of the cleaning process in action on TikTok, where it garnered a lot of attention.
Posting under the username @dyxidog, the homeowner said: “Clean your carpets.”
She added: “This is why your landlord asks you to get the carpet cleaned every six months.
“We bought our house thinking we had brown carpets… After cleaning the landing we found out they are tan!!
“I went over this entry to the master four times…”
She then proceeded to take the tank out of the machine and show how disgusting the dirty water inside was.
“This is from the first go over,” she admitted, adding some vomiting face emojis to really drive the point home.
However, by the end of the video the carpet is looking nice and clean and is no longer matted down.
The clip has gone viral on TikTok, being watched over 666,000 times and garnering more than 6,400 likes.
One person said: “I cleaned mine as soon as I moved in even though the landlord claimed it had been done and I had to do it three times before the water wasn’t black.”
Another replied: “I just bought a house and the carpets are horrible!”
“Carpet is disgusting,” proclaimed a third. “Tear it up and do rugs.”
